If you decide you no longer need your business account and would like to close it, there are a few things you should check beforehand. You may also have a personal account attached to it. You can close just the business account, or both the personal and business accounts.
You can only close a business account if you’re the owner of the account — here’s how to change ownership.
Before you close
We recommend you check and follow these steps before you permanently close your account, so that you have everything you need:
Download any transfer receipts and balance statements you might need
Disconnect from all accounting platforms, like Xero or Quickbooks
Switch all your money to cash and wait until fees are taken
Complete or cancel all pending transactions
Wait for any pending card payments to go through
Withdrawing money
You might still have money left on your balances or Jars.
From Home, go on any balance with money in it
Select Send
Choose the bank account you want to send the money to
When asked how much you’d like to send, choose Send it all
Select Confirm
Learn how to send money from your business account to your personal if you’re keeping your personal account open.
Closing your business account
You can close or leave your business account on both web or app, but you need to be the business owner.
Go on your business name in the top corner
Select Settings
Select Close account and follow the prompts to confirm the account closure and enter your password
If you see Leave your business account instead, it means you’re not the owner of this account and can’t close it yourself, but you can leave it.
Once your account is closed or you've left, you won't have access to any of the activity or account statements on it anymore.
If your business has become insolvent
If your business has gone bankrupt or entered the insolvency or liquidation proceeding, share our email legalrequests@wise.com with your liquidator or the insolvency administrator.
When they reach out to our team, we’ll act in accordance with their instructions. Your Wise Business account will be deactivated and the remaining funds will be transferred to the details specified by your liquidator or insolvency administrator.
